About this activity

Discover the Backcountry of Chamonix: Pure Powder and High-Alpine Adventure

Backcountry skiing in Chamonix opens the door to an extraordinary world of deep snow, wild terrain and dramatic alpine scenery. Celebrated as one of the great freeride capitals of the Alps, Chamonix offers an unmatched variety of slopes, glaciers and big-mountain lines — an ideal playground for anyone who loves skiing beyond the groomed runs.

Our mountain guides will lead you to the most iconic off-piste areas in the valley, such as the steep and scenic terrain of Grands Montets, the high-altitude routes accessed from the Aiguille du Midi, and the spectacular glacial descents that begin at Punta Helbronner on the Italian border. Each zone has its own character, from open powder fields to narrow couloirs and long, flowing backcountry itineraries.

Join us to experience Chamonix and the Mont Blanc massif in the most exciting way possible. We organize customised off-piste and backcountry outings for individuals and private groups of all abilities — from skiers taking their first steps outside the pistes to advanced riders in search of challenging alpine routes.

With the support of our IFMGA/UIAGM-certified guides, you’ll enjoy a day designed around your skills and expectations. Routes for Every Skier, with Safety and Progression at the Core

Chamonix offers a wide range of backcountry routes suitable for every ability — from accessible powder fields ideal for first-time off-piste skiers to challenging alpine lines for those looking to push their limits. Throughout the day, our guides oversee all aspects of safety and provide personalised tips to help you improve your technique. They also introduce you to essential mountain knowledge, including snow science, the local environment, and the cultural heritage of the Mont Blanc region.

To choose the perfect itinerary each day, our guides evaluate a combination of factors: your skiing level, current weather patterns, snow stability and the avalanche forecast. This careful assessment allows us to bring you to the areas with the best conditions while keeping the day safe and enjoyable.

For a truly complete experience, we recommend booking at least two consecutive days. This gives us enough time to understand your style, build confidence and gradually introduce you to the most suitable — and most spectacular — off-piste routes Chamonix has to offer.

Spots to run

Chamonix offers an exceptional variety of off-piste terrain, perfect for skiers and snowboarders looking for spectacular descents in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif. Among the most iconic areas are the slopes of Grands Montets, featuring its legendary North Face, glacier runs and the adventurous Pas de Chèvre; the high-alpine world of the Aiguille du Midi, home to classic itineraries such as the Envers du Plan; and the Italian side of Punta Helbronner, where the Glacier de Toule provides unforgettable powder runs. Snowboarders will especially enjoy the long descents of Posettes and Trient, as well as the renowned Couloirs du Brévent.
