    Description

The Tatra mountains, the border between Poland and Slovakia, are ideal terrain for ski mountaineering. Even if they do not reach high altitudes they are always subject to copious snowfalls that offer the ski mountaineer a wide choice of itineraries of all the difficulties, length and commitment.
Supporting the typical local shelters, which offer excellent service, we will cross from west to east the entire crown of the Tatra mountains chain along ridges and pristine valleys.

Zakopane, the ‘Cortina’ of Poland, thanks to its splendid location right in the center of the Tatra mountain chain, is a perfect and respectful union between tourist vocation and attention to local traditions.

Our touring tour will start from this town. Leaning on the managed shelters we will cross the whole range of the Polish Tatras mountains inside the homonymous National Park. It will be a ride of several days along wide and gentle valleys, following ridges and ridges with breathtaking views first on the Low Tatras facing west where the profiles are softer and more inviting until you reach the most severe peaks of the East side of the chain, the High Tatras .

Here we will be able to test ourselves on some itineraries with characteristics that are more similar to those of our regions, along canyons and more severe ridges, but always with limited difficulty and which can be faced by everyone. The trips we will have on average will have gradients of 1000/1200 meters with difficulty classifying BSA.

There are no glacial areas: it is therefore not required a ski mountaineering experience in the high mountains or in glacial terrain. To take part in this journey, on the other hand, it is necessary to have a technical level and a typical ski touring experience comparable to BSA class rides. It is instead important to have a good training, adaptability and collaborative spirit within a group as well as a basic technique of the use of crampons and axe that we may have to use in short strokes if the snow conditions require it.
