During our Hokkaido ski trip in Japan, you’ll immerse yourself in one of the most exciting destinations for snow lovers and off-piste skiing enthusiasts.
Our 10-day program includes 7 full days of skiing: a perfect mix of freeride sessions in Hokkaido’s most famous resorts and ski touring adventures far from the crowds, searching for untouched lines and the deepest powder snow.
Unmatched Snowfall in Hokkaido
Snowstorms are frequent in Hokkaido, and it’s not unusual to wake up to 40–50 cm of fresh, cold, and light powder overnight – the dream of every freerider.

With our private vehicle, we can choose the best spot each day depending on weather and snow conditions:

For our stay near Niseko, we have chosen a villa surrounded by nature, away from the town centre and nestled among Hokkaido’s peaceful, snow-covered birch forests. The property can accommodate up to eight guests and features four bedrooms with single beds, two bathrooms, spacious communal areas, a fully equipped kitchen where we can prepare and enjoy meals together, and a cosy living room overlooking the forest—the perfect place to relax at the end of each day on the slopes.
Participants should be confident skiers with good control on ungroomed terrain and previous experience in off-piste conditions. Most skiing will take place in fresh, deep powder, mainly through forests and on moderately steep slopes. You should be able to link controlled turns in variable snow, manage your speed between trees, and ski safely throughout a full day. Advanced technical ability is not required, but familiarity with powder skiing and a good overall level of fitness are essential.
Participants must bring complete technical equipment for off-piste skiing and ski touring: touring skis with skins and ski crampons, ski touring boots, poles, helmet, backpack, and avalanche safety equipment (transceiver, shovel, and probe). Appropriate winter clothing, goggles, sunglasses, warm gloves, and spare layers are also essential. A detailed equipment list will be provided before departure.

Flight from an European Airport.
Arrival in Japan, Sapporo, Chitose Airport, capital of Hokkaido. Withdrawal of equipment and rental car. Transfer to Niseko. We will meet in Sapporo airport and share the travel to Niseko.
Acclimatization day in Niseko Ski Area. We will ski all day using the lifts and visiting the whole area.
We will decide where to ski based on the conditions and the snow.
The snowfalls in Hokkaido are uneven so it may be that in one place it snows a little while at 30 km it makes a meter of snow!
Visit to the Rusutsu ski area. A smaller resort but frequented by locals. Here too we will use the lifts to ski off-piste all day in a wonderful birch grove.
We will leave off-piste skiing with lifts and visit the surrounding peaks with climbing skins. The opportunities are many, and the chances of not finding traces are very high. There are no great peaks, but you can climb 2 or 3 times always choosing different itineraries!
Depending on the conditions, we will choose whether to ski with lifts or take another ski touring trip, probably Volcano Yotei.
Backcountry skiing in the volcano area. Or (optionally!) we will take a day off! We will visit Hokkaido by taking the car and heading north. We will stop in the fishing village of.. typical for the daily life of Japanese fishing boats as well as having really good restaurants! In the evening, transfer to Sapporo for a city tour. Come back in.
Off-piste in Niseko.
Return to Sapporo and flight to Italy. Flight usually lasts 2 days.
This is a 10 days trip with 7 days of skiing, from the 9th to the 18th of January. Meeting point the 10th in Sapporo Airport and departure the 18th from Niseko. (Usually the flight takes 2 days).

The policy should specifically cover off-piste skiing and ski touring, as well as emergency medical treatment, mountain rescue, evacuation, hospitalisation, and repatriation. Medical expenses in Japan can be significant for foreign visitors, so please check the policy’s coverage and exclusions carefully before departure.
We strongly recommend taking out comprehensive travel cancellation insurance at the time of booking. The policy should provide appropriate coverage if you are unexpectedly unable to travel due to illness, injury, serious unforeseen circumstances, or extraordinary events affecting the trip. Please check the policy’s coverage, exclusions, and reimbursement conditions carefully, as all cancellations remain subject to our booking and cancellation terms.
Japanese culture and social customs can be quite different from those commonly found in Europe, so we recommend familiarising yourself with the basic rules of etiquette and respectful behaviour before departure. It is also advisable to arrive with a small amount of Japanese yen for immediate expenses and for places where cards may not be accepted. Cash can be withdrawn locally from compatible ATMs, and credit cards are widely accepted in many hotels, shops, and restaurants. English is generally understood in major tourist areas, but it may be less widely spoken in rural locations and smaller establishments, so a translation app can be useful.
