About this activity

Ski touring in the wild side of the Alps, the Julian Alps

The Julian Alps are one of the Alpine arc’s most underrated treasures: a wild, authentic and remarkably quiet mountain range, far less visited than the more famous Western Alps yet every bit as fascinating. Here, ski mountaineering means travelling through snow-covered forests, dramatic limestone walls and wide open ridges with sweeping views across Italy, Slovenia and Austria — a true immersion in solitude and unspoiled nature.

With Horizon Adventures, this trip becomes more than a ski tour: it is a complete mountain experience that includes discovering local borderland culture, tasting traditional alpine cuisine and enjoying the warmth of welcoming mountain huts. It strikes the perfect balance between the comfort of the valley and the adventure of spending nights at altitude under a star-filled sky.

This 4-day program is ideal for beginners who want to take their first real steps into ski mountaineering under the guidance of certified UIAGM professionals, combining technical learning with rewarding scenic tours. Two nights in a high-mountain refuge and two nights in a comfortable hotel create the right rhythm: first the ease of the valley, then the authentic atmosphere of the high peaks.

A unique winter escape that allows you to experience the mountains of Friuli from a different angle — far from crowded pistes and close to the true spirit of ski mountaineering.
