If you love off-piste skiing and freeride, a Japan ski trip is a must. Hokkaido is the ultimate destination for powder hunters, offering deep, untouched snow and breathtaking backcountry terrain.
Niseko and Rusutsu Ski Resorts
Hokkaido’s iconic ski resorts, such as the renowned Niseko and the less-known but equally spectacular Rusutsu, are true paradises for freeride skiers. Just a short distance from the resorts, countless backcountry itineraries open up, leading to secret spots where you can carve fresh lines in pristine snow.
Off-Piste & Ski Touring in Japan
The perfect combination of lift-accessed off-piste and ski touring (or ski mountaineering) guarantees meters of fresh powder every single day. Our guides know the terrain intimately and will take you to the safest and most rewarding runs in Hokkaido.
Beyond Skiing – Japanese Culture & Lifestyle
A ski trip to Japan is more than just skiing. Evenings will be spent enjoying authentic Japanese food, relaxing in traditional onsen hot springs, and discovering the culture and history of Hokkaido. Weather permitting, we may also explore small fishing towns and immerse ourselves in everyday Japanese life, making this adventure a true Journey with a capital J.
Hokkaido Japan Ski Trip – 7 Days of Powder, Freeride & Ski Touring

Unmatched Snowfall in Hokkaido
Snowstorms are frequent in Hokkaido, and it’s not unusual to wake up to 40–50 cm of fresh, cold, and light powder overnight – the dream of every freerider.
Niseko, Rusutsu & the Japanese Backcountry
With our private vehicle, we can choose the best spot each day depending on weather and snow conditions:
Stay close to the legendary slopes of Niseko United
Explore the magical forests of Rusutsu
Or venture into the Japanese backcountry with ski touring equipment to discover hidden powder stashes.
Even on stormy days, the forests offer the perfect playground for skiing in foggy or low-visibility conditions.
Culture Beyond the Slopes
To complement the skiing, we will dedicate a day to exploring traditional fishing villages along Hokkaido’s northern coast, enriching the journey with authentic Japanese culture, cuisine, and lifestyle.

Arrival in Japan, Sapporo, Chitose Airport, capital of Hokkaido. Withdrawal of equipment and rental car. Transfer to Niseko. We will meet in Sapporo airport and share the travel to Niseko.
Acclimatization day in Niseko Ski Area. We will ski all day using the lifts and visiting the whole area.
We will decide where to ski based on the conditions and the snow.
The snowfalls in Hokkaido are uneven so it may be that in one place it snows a little while at 30 km it makes a meter of snow!
Visit to the Rusutsu ski area. A smaller resort but frequented by locals. Here too we will use the lifts to ski off-piste all day in a wonderful birch grove.
We will leave off-piste skiing with lifts and visit the surrounding peaks with climbing skins. The opportunities are many, and the chances of not finding traces are very high. There are no great peaks, but you can climb 2 or 3 times always choosing different itineraries!
Depending on the conditions, we will choose whether to ski with lifts or take another ski touring trip, probably Volcano Yotei.
Day off! We will visit Hokkaido by taking the car and heading north. We will stop in the fishing village of.. typical for the daily life of Japanese fishing boats as well as having really good restaurants! In the evening, transfer to Sapporo for a city tour. Come back in.
